Self-penned originals by the quietly-maturing pianist, composer and studio/label director. Captured in first or second takes, this album was made over two short sessions in 2019 at David’s studio and retains the immediacy and intensity of the connection all four musicians audibly feel. Influenced by the same generation of ECM artists from Jarrett and Garbarek to Brunninghaus and Mariano, David and Julian developed a mutual regard for each other’s music, working and living close by on the South Coast, culminating in an invitation from David to Julian to record his tunes with his well-oiled trio. The live show at the Vortex following these recordings cemented in everyone’s mind the excitement of great things to be continued!
